I have choosen this short film as it is very clever and thoughtprovoking. It also gives a message across to the viewer about how the protagonist is greedy. All of this is done in 2 minutes and 47 seconds.
The black hole is a comedy that conveys a message of greed. It starts with a office worker looking tired and depressed. the mis-en-scene in this shot shows he has been working till late as his appearnce isn't looked after(shirt untucked and top button undone). He is doing the mundane task of photocopying, until it stops working, this is when he gives it a kick. At this point there is a change in the diegetic music, as the page printed is just a black circle. At this point the office worker seems confused but carries on printing until his rubbish falls into the black hole and disappears. This sparks off the start to his crazy antics.
The establishing shot clearly shows it is an office and the colour plallet is drab using dull shades of grey denoting to the depressing scenery.
So far no convention of comedy have been achieved and despite the low mood in the office there is high action. As the man's drink disappears it adds another element to the short film and as the man studies the paper some comedic element is achieved. As the film moves on it has a 'Mr. Bean' feel to it as childish tomfoolery gains lots of comedic value, such as stealing a sweet from a vending machine, as well as the happy facial expression when he does so. The Action to the film is increased when we see a 'KEEP OUT' sign. As a human, when an opportunity knocks we take it, which is why this short film works because it is relevant to everyday life. Inside this room there is a safe, he takes the money out of the safe, but he keeps going until he nearly has it all, on the last go his whole body falls into the balck hole and he is trapped inside the safe. As the camera pans back and starts to fade we hear knocks on the door.
Despite the storyline having little comedic value it is important to see the tongue in cheek appraoch but it does through up how greedy are the human race? The hole being black, shows there is a dark element to the story and should not be over seen.
